As a kick off to my blog I will be sharing some of my favorite projects I have already completed that I never really told anyone about. Up first is an image I shot recently this Christmas of a 2014 Subaru WRX. This project was off assignment and I was doing it primarily to experiment with new techniques, but I was very happy with the results:
What you see has very little photoshop at all. The purpose of this exercise was to create an image that seemed surreal while keeping it in camera. I did this by building a small contraption which enabled me to light the background using real fire. However, after toying around with the camera and the fire lighting I wasn’t completely satisfied with the result in camera (left), so I decided to take a second image using professional lighting (right). While I tried to avoid any photoshop at all in post, I ended up having to use photoshop to change the temperature of the second image to match the warm fiery background and finally combine the images selecting specific parts from each image to develop the final image you see above. All in all, a really fun project that I look forward to implementing with more exotic cars in the future.
